Adaptive Re-Use
Adapt CNY, Inc.
A spin-off of 40 Below, Adapt CNY, Inc. (Adapt CNY) was formally incorporated as a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit corporation on December 12, 2005. The Board of Directors consists of eleven directors, with applicable backgrounds in law, construction, economic development, accounting, fundraising, and events coordination to name a few.
Adapt CNY's mission is to encourage and create a vibrant downtown through the redevelopment of vacant and under-utilized property in Syracuse blighted urban core.
To date Adapt CNY has undertaken several projects to achieve their mission. Adapt CNY's largest project to date is the Wilson Building. A vacant building that sits on the 300 block of South Salina Street. Adapt CNY is working to acquire and rehabilitate the Wilson Building into a mixed use (retail/office and residential) space. Currently owned by the City of Syracuse, Adapt CNY has secured an exclusive option to purchase the Wilson Building. Adapt CNY has raised over 1 million dollars through a combination of grants, loans and individual donations. In addition, they currently have plans to submit several grant applications for the fiscal year of 2008.
The Wilson Building Project has become a catalyst for change in our city's urban core area. The project's completion is yet some time away but that has not stopped this vibrant, energized group of volunteers from having impact on our city's urban core.
Adapt CNY also has a "Green Space" committee whose mission is to improve or redevelop green space within the city of Syracuse, specifically our downtown's urban core. The Green Space committee partners with several organizations to accomplish their goal, however, partnerships are structured so that project upkeeps are maintained by partnered organization.
